The First Speed Trike Record?
This could possibly be the first known speed trike world record. The place, the historic Signal Hill Speed Run of 1976. The rider, an unknown spectator, the equipment, a Louis Marx & Co Big Wheel. An epic machine, that has since been inducted into the National Toy Hall of Fame in 2009. Little had they known what they started back then, undoubtedly, the original drift trike. At the hill, the unknown rider crashes the event, mounts the plastic fantastic and bombs the hill. With no more than a pair of swim trunks and tennis shoes as safety gear, makes it to the bottom unscathed, and lays down a wicked .......... 36 mph! Never to be seen again. Is that not cool or what!
Although there are hundreds of trike riders in the world, as of late 2016, no official trike world record speed attempt has been made. With the announcement of the 2017 L'Ultime Descente, this could all change. The WGSA is looking forward to this event to stir up some interest in the trike community for some courageous trike pilots to make history.
