WGSA starting & run procedures
1. All speed runs starting procedures: All wheels must be touching road surface during start sequence.
Gravity Car: All classes, gravity only *Human assisted push starts are NOT allowed.
Street Luge / Classic Luge: Paddle starts only allowed. Unlimited paddle allowed.
*No running kick starts allowed.
Gravity Bike: Mounted kick starting is allowed *Note: See rules for starting full fairing Unlimited class
Longboard: Kick starting only is allowed
Speed Trike: All classes, gravity only
2. All runs will start with the vehicle and driver/rider at a stand still. No forward motion.
3. No man made structures or mechanical devices allowed for starting or during the run: ramps, inclines, platforms, springs, catapults, actuators, or sails
4. No outside individual can touch the vehicle or driver/rider once the brakes are released and the run begins, and until the vehicle comes to a complete stop at the end of the run.
5. Driver/rider cannot touch any vehicle rotating assemblies from start to finish of the run: axles, wheels, brakes,
6. Driver/rider cannot touch road surface with any part of his body from start to finish of the run. *Exceptions: Street luge, Classic Luge, Drift Trike, LongBoard, Recumbent Gravity Bike
7. Vehicle must maintain its wheel configuration from start to finish of the run. No retraction of wheels. Trikes and Sidecar bicycling will not be allowed. Allowance is made for vehicle negotiating road surface irregularities.
8. Run will be made with no drafting assistance.
9. Parachutes for shutdown are allowed in all categories and all classes.
the forfeiture of a run
1. The run is forfeited and disallowed if during the run if there is a lose of control and crash ensues. Driver/rider must be in full control of his vehicle from start to finishing of the run and a complete controlled stop. Note: If there is a momentary lose of control and then regained, the run will not be
forfieted.
2. The run will be forfeited and disallowed if any part/s depart from vehicle during the run.
3. The run will be forfeited and disallowed if the rider/driver during the run disrupts or impedes traffic flow of traveling motorists.
*Open road speed runs or world record speed run attempts are HIGHLY discouraged by the WGSA. Every effort
should be made to coordinate with authorities and secure the closure of the road for the record attempt. However, WGSA recognizes that some roads thru out the world are desolate and road closure may not be warranted.

the measurement of speed
1. The measurement of speed for a certified WGSA world record will be accomplished by the elapsed time for vehicle to travel the length of a measured speed trap.
2. The length of the measured speed trap will be a surveyed length of not less than 30 meters / 98.42 feet.
3. The speed trap measuring equipment will be a chronograph activated by photo-electric timing cells positioned at at either end of the speed trap. Timing equipment will be accurate to the 1/1000 of a second. GPS and radar guns are NOT allowed for the measurement of speed.
4. All timing equipment must be obtained from and operated by suitably qualified professionals, who must provide a statement after the run confirming the record speed and how it was measured. This run statement must include the date the world record was accomplished, the discipline, the rider or driver's name, the timing equipment manufacturers name used to time speed record, and name of personnel operating speed measurement equipment for the recorded run and length of speed trap.
5. Video and picture documentation is MANDATORY for authenticity verification of a WGSA world record attempt if the WGSA is not onsite for verification. The more video and picture documentation the better. Unbroken video of rider/driver thru speed trap with speed read out is MANDATORY.
6. A minimum of two eye witnesses must be in attendance during the run and positioned at the speed trap where the speed is measured. Timing gear operator must supply a statement Eye witness names must be provided to the WGSA along with the run statement and their contact info is mandatory.
*NOTE* The WGSA has the authority to decline any world record attempt if insufficient evidence,
data, video, or pictures, and eye witness accounts are not submitted properly or in a timely manner.

WGSA guide to evidence requirements
The following are the evidence requirements are MANDATORY for a WGSA world record certification:
1. Cover Letter This will include who made the world record attempt and their mailing address and contact info.
The measured speed of the record attempt.
When the attempt took place and the place the attempt took place. venue, city, state, and country. The WGSA class you are attempting to set the record in.
2. Witness Statements A minimum of two individual eye witness statements who were in attendance during the record attempt are required. It is required the two witnesses must observe the timing gear readout as the rider/driver passes thru the speed trap. The two witnesses will have to give a detailed account in their own words of their observation of the record attempt run. Witness contact info is mandatory.
3. Time Keeper Statement The timekeeper must give full name and contact info. This is mandatory. The statement must include their expertise in timekeeping. The timekeeper statement must include detailed info of who was making the record attempt, WGSA class, date and location, a detailed description of timekeeping equipment used, full details of how the timing was measured and length of speed trap.
4. Photographic Evidence Photos should show variety, prep for the attempt, different stages of the run, start, during and end. Try to capture attempt action. A photo of the timing readout is helpful. The more photo evidence, the better.
5. Video Evidence Video evidence is essential. Video footage will truly adjudicate your record attempt and verify details provided by the eye witness accounts. An unbroken video must clearly show the measurement of speed for the record as the rider/driver passes thru the speed trap is MANDATORY. Any video footage must clearly focus on the attempt so that it is possible to accurately observe and judge the record attempt.

WGSA Guide to world record certification
The following is the World Gravity Speed Association evidence and certification process for the issuance of any WGSA world records.
1. Following the examination of all data and information submitted for the WGSA world record and the attempt meets or exceeds all criteria, rules, and regulations, the WGSA will announce the recipient of the new WGSA world record at that time.
2. On the day of announcement of the WGSA world record, the world record will enter into a probation period of 5 (five) days. The probation period will end on day 5 (five) midnight EST.
3. During the world record probation period, protests can be filed then and only then, regarding the WGSA world record announcement. The protest filed must include names, eye witness accounts, information, video, and/or pics to support the protest of the WGSA world record in question. Contact information is MANDATORY.
4. Following the probation period, if no protests have been filed, the the WGSA will certify the world record is accurate and in accordance with the WGSA rules and regulations.
5. Following the probation period, the WGSA will examine any and all protests filed against the world record during the probation period in a timely manner and the ruling will be announced.
6. If the protest does not have sufficient evidence to support the protest of the world record in question, the protest will be dismissed and the WGSA world record will be certified accurate and in accordance with the WGSA rules and regulations.
7. If the protest has undeniable substantial evidence that the world record is out of compliance with the WGSA rules and regulations, the world record will be revoked and void pending a one time appeal process.
8. Following the revocation of a WGSA world record, the rider/driver can submit a one time appeal. During the appeal process, the WGSA will examine all appeal info and data submitted and make a final decision in a timely manner.
9. If the rider/driver wins his/her appeal, the WGSA world record will be reinstated and no further actions allowed.
