GCWC News and Updates
Mar, 18, 2020 Gravity Car World Championship Speed Race Cancelled What was slated to be the richest and fastest gravity car race in history has be cancelled because of the Corona pandemic which is currently circling the globe. Hickey Speed has currently suspended all efforts in organizing the race because of concerns for the health and safety of all gravity land speed racers involved. Hickey Speed and the WGSA are now looking to 2021 for consideration of a Gravity Car World Championship race. Watch for developments and info later this year about the event.
Sept. 28, 2019 Road procurement process has started and the race date will be announced in the very near future. Race date will most likely be late summer or early fall of next year. Registration is planned to began next month.
Oct. 02, 2019 Will suspension cars be eligible? Yes, in all WGSA classes.
Can a gravity car compete if it does not fall into one of the WGSA classes? No.
Will parachutes be mandatory at this WGSA event? Yes
Why only gravity cars at this event? We looked into logistics, man power, insurance and time usage of the hill. With multiple classes it gets very expensive and the use of the hill has to be split up among all competing classes to be fair, thus considerably reducing the hill time available for each class. That's not considering if weather shortens the event. Also, with documentary TV filming of the event, we also wanted to make sure the land speed gravity cars are showcased without other class interruptions or interference..
Where is the event location? The road procurement process has started. With several options, the WGSA obviously wants to secure the steepest road possible for the event. Until we have a confirmation and have secured the road for the event, we have elected to hold off on announcing it's location. Things are moving forward in a very positive way!
Thanks for the interest GO FAST
